“Like no place
else on Earth”, Mono is a mystical place with its
striking tufa tower displays and the cycles of birds and
other briny inhabitants that help define its incredibly
unique ecosystem. We’ll begin with a visit to the
Forest Service Visitor’s Center overlooking the protected
Mono Basin. Then we’ll venture out on the lake itself
(conditions allowing) exploring the tufas, shoreline features
and wildlife as few others have from the smooth mobility
of our kayaks. From our nearby campsite in a majestic, peak-shadowed
valley, we’ll check out the resident beaver and brook
trout populations and the awesome sky & stars of the
Eastern Sierra. On day two, we’ll paddle Mono again,
or one of the other pristine alpine lakes in the area, before
heading back to the realities of our everyday world.
Cost: $240
(2 day overnight) Includes all paddling equipment, campsite,
lake access fees, and meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast).
