Dan,
the current National Champion and World Master's
Champion and member of the World Championship US
West Kayak Surfing Team since 1991, has been riding
waves competitively since 1989. This experience
combined with his unique instructional knowledge
and style make these sessions invaluable for novice
and advanced surfers alike. He’ll
go over the basics of surf zone kayaking, including,
but not limited to, reading sets, selecting launch
sites, proper bracing technique, getting through
the waves, where to set up, catching waves, staying
on them, getting off them(!), proper landing techniques,
and surf etiquette. Locations include Santa Cruz,
Capitola, and others TBA.

The
Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival is just around the corner, March
24th-26th, 2006. In
an effort to get ready for this most noble event and hone those
skills for the ever critical eyes of the judges, the West Coast
Surf Kayaking Association (WCSKA) is planning on presenting two
days of surf clinics, taught by the World Champion athletes who
won in Costa Rica. It
is scheduled for the 11th and 12th of February, featuring a novice-intermediate
day on the 11th and an intermediate-expert day on the 12th. These
clinics will be orchestrated by Dan
Crandall and the team of Current Adventures. You can register

All instruction will be provided, and
surf kayaks can be provided for those that need them, however,
you are highly encouraged to bring your own craft. There will
be a get together at Adventure Sports Unlimited for refreshments,
Jacuzzi, and surf videos each evening. The price for this chance to improve
those skills and learn the new moves is $95 a day, with a portion
of the proceeds going to the WCSKA and US
West Surf Kayak team. The
space is limited to 8 surfers a day so don't delay!
