Current Adventures' Staff Brian Chance

One day, 13 years ago, as Brian was relaxing on a Santa Cruz beach, two women with kayaks on their shoulders walked by. They launched through the surf, caught a couple of waves and paddled off into the distance. “Wow, that looks like fun!” Brian thought. When he got home, on his doorstep there lay a brochure OPENED TO THE KAYAKING CLASSES! The cosmos was trying to tell him something! He took a Discover Kayaking class at Elkhorn Slough and that was it, he was hooked! Within a month he bought a boat, gear and roof racks;  he was a bona fide addict!Brian's kayaking career offers these highlights: • Master Judging the Santa Cruz Kayak Surf Festival since 1993 • Helping organize judging for Kayak Surf contests in North Carolina and Costa Rica • Safety boating for a rafting company in Costa Rica • Becoming a Certified Scuba Diver (they needed someone to help with their Kayak Diving program) • Kayaking in the Sea of Cortez. When asked, "Where is your favorite place to kayak?" Brian says the answer is simple, "Wherever I’m Kayaking!" Back to Main Staff Page
